They are fixed to their mounting brackets with screws or clips. The main advantage of clipped end extension springs is that they can be stretched and adjusted without removing them from their brackets or winding cones.

Horizontal / torsion Spring

These springs are horizontal, and there is no tension when the garage door is closed. When the doors are opened, you can feel some movement from these springs. These springs are usually used on double garage door setups. This type of spring is also used in sectional doors and roll-up doors.

A garage door can have from one to four torsion springs, depending on the model. There are four types: standard, early-set, steel rolling-door, or torque-master springs.

Standard torsion springs 

Standard torsion springs are frequently found on residential garage doors. Not-so-heavy doors use this type of spring, only requiring one spring to function.

Early-set torsion springs 

They are similar to standard torsion springs. Commercial doors usually use them. They are designed to get the door to a certain point and then spring out the rest of the way. This means there will be less stress on the rollers.

Steel rolling door torsion springs 

They are similar to standard torsion springs, but they are wider and have more coils to handle heavier-weight garage doors. These springs are used in businesses and warehouses. 

They are normally seen in commercial and industrial buildings. Generally used on rolling doors, but can be installed in a garage door.
