Jamaica's Davina Bennett second runner-up in Miss Universe pageant

"She is a woman that nothing ever too much to ask for and I think that is exactly who I am", she said, paving her way to the crown.

Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters beat Miss Jamaica and Miss Columbia in the final round.

Nel-Peters, a graduate in business management, said her disabled half-sister has been among her great inspirations.

South African President Jacob Zuma congratulated Nel-Peters, the reigning Miss South Africa, saying she had made the country proud.


Miss Philippines Rachel Peters stuns the crowd at the AXIS theater at Planet Hollywood casino-resort on the Las Vegas Strip. In the future, the new victor from South Africa plans on using her self-defense workshops to help as many women as she can.

It was the the pageant's 66th year and included almost 100 women from around the world. Laura Gonzalez from Colombia was the runner-up while Davina Bennett from Jamaica came third. He previously dressed Pia Wurtzbach when she passed her crown to Iris in Manila last January. This is the second time a contestant from South Africa has won the Miss Universe title in the history of the beauty pageant.

"As Miss Universe, you have to be confident in who you are".

The comic joked he was "thankful for the Oscars" for taking the heat away from his gaffe, referring to the botched "best picture" announcement at the 2016 academy awards. "Congratulations to our Miss Universe!"
