CBS, Dish reach agreement to halt blackouts ahead of BSU game

CBS and Dish Network reach deal to end blackout

Hours after millions of viewers were unable to watch the Chargers-Cowboys football game on Thanksgiving Day afternoon, Dish Network and CBS reached a multi-year fee agreement, ending the blackout that kept the game off the airwaves. "Dish customers will continue to get CBS' must-have content, while we are also able to achieve our short and long-term economic and strategic goals".

Terms of the deal reached on Thursday night were not made public. CBS' streaming service was the only way for fans to watch the game.

Besides Chicago, other affected markets were NY (where CBS owns WCBS and WLNY), Los Angeles (KCBS and KCAL), Philadelphia (KYW and WPSG), Dallas (KTVT and KTXA), San Francisco (KPIX and KBCW), Atlanta (WUPA), Boston (WBZ and WSBK), Seattle (KSTW), Tampa (WTOG), Detroit (WWJ and WKBD), Minneapolis (WCCO), Miami (WFOR and WBFS), Denver (KCNC), Sacramento (KOVR and KMAX), Pittsburgh (KDKA and WPCW) and Baltimore (WJZ).

The deal, which includes all CBS-owned stations, as well as CBS Sports Network, Pop and Smithsonian Channel, comes after almost three days of no CBS programming from the cable provider. The antenna offer was based on the reception available at the subscriber's home. The new deal includes retransmission consent for CBS-owned TV stations, including KCBS (Channel 2) and KCAL (Channel 9) in Los Angeles. CBS's president of television network distribution Ray Hopkins released a statement.

After inputting your ZIP code, you can scroll down to the Make Your Voice Heard section, where Dish lists all of the local businesses advertising on specific CBS channels. "Our customers are clear: they don't want to pay a CBS tax". "The fees CBS and other broadcasters charge pay-TV providers, like Dish, to carry local channels is up an incredible 1,700 percent".
