A ban on alcohol has also been issued at all Recognized Student Organization events during the interim suspension.

The death of a fraternity pledge at Florida State University has sparked a police investigation and the suspension of the fraternal organization's local chapter, officials said.

During the suspension, fraternity and sorority chapters at FSU will not be allowed to hold new member events, meetings, tailgates, or events such as socials or retreats.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the student's family and friends", Pi Kappa Phi CEO Mark E. Timmes said in a statement obtained by ABC News. Authorities have not determined what caused his death, but police said alcohol may have been a factor. "We appreciate the partnership and support from the Division of Student Affairs during this hard time".

Florida State University has announced a ban on all fraternities and sororities following the death of a student at a house party on Friday. "They will have to participate in the solution", Thrasher said.

Andrew Coffey was found dead Friday morning after an off-campus fraternity party Thursday night in Tallahassee. He eventually died at the scene. Coffey was a civil engineering major from Pompano Beach. Police collected beer bottles from the porch as evidence, the newspaper reported. Pi Kappa Phi has faced disciplinary action numerous times over the last five years, the Sun-Sentinel reports, including for alcohol violations.
