Lego Excludes Important 'Hidden Figure' From Women Of NASA Collection

LEGO Ideas 21312 Women of NASA unveiled [News]

We're thrilled to reveal the next #LEGOIdeas set 21312 Women of NASA by Maia Weinstock!

Some of NASA's most influential women have finally been immortalized in an iconic toy set. Four pioneering women from Apollo to the space shuttle have been transformed into play sets. "But my overall vision is still very much alive with Lego's final design, and the builds have been beautifully enhanced thanks to the creative team in Billund - where, I might add, the lead designers on this project were all women!"

You can build the Hubble Space Telescope with the "Mother of Hubble" Nancy Grace Roman and develop software for space missions with Margaret Hamilton.

Meet Women of NASA: a brand new LEGO line inspired by designer Maia Weinstock's proposal on LEGO Ideas, a crowdsourcing LEGO platform which gives everyday people like you and me the chance to share their LEGO creations and pitch potential future lines and designs.

Today (Oct. 17), Lego announced that it would start selling its "Women of NASA" collection on Oct. 28 in NY and November 1 globally. A miniature version of Hamilton's workspace at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as she was programming software for the moon landing is also featured.

The set will go for the suggested retail price of $24.99 and will be available just in time for the holiday season for anyone looking to inspire the LEGO-lover in their life.

"It was a great experience to give these wonderful women their new LEGO identity and a great honor to personally present Margaret Hamilton with her very own Minifigure", added LEGO Design Manager Tara Wike.

The original idea also included Katherine Johnson, one of the mathematicians who worked on NASA's Gemini program and whose story was told in the recent film "Hidden Figures". "For the vignettes, I wanted to contextualize each person in terms of her contribution to NASA history". Johnson was left out because she apparently chose not to be part of the set.
