2nd ODI: Zaman departs early as Pakistan at 25-1

Cricket First ODI between SL Pakistan to get underway shortly

The final decision of the Sri Lankan Cricket authorities to select an alternative team headed by Kusal Perera to travel to Pakistan to play a T20 match on 29 October, in Lahore is deplorable.

Captain Upul Tharanga scored an unbeaten 112 and became the first Sri Lanka batsman to carry his bat in an ODI, before his team was bowled out for 187 in 48 overs.

Sri Lanka's cricket authority said on Monday it will go ahead with its tour of Pakistan later this month for the third and final Twenty20 match despite security concerns expressed by several players.

"The Executive Committee evaluated the reports obtained together with the recommendation of the International Cricket Council - which successfully conducted the Independence Cup tournament in Lahore fielding a World XI Team - and having been fully satisfied with the stringent security measures in place, the SLC ExCo unanimously chose to play the third T20 in Lahore on October 29".

Accordingly, the 15-member squad will be announced on 20 October. SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala will also come with his players. Hashan Thilakaratne (batting coach), Rumesh Ratnayake (bowling coach), Asanka Gurusinha (manager) and Nic Pothas (head coach) are all willing to tour Lahore after head coach Mickey Arthur spoke to them, a source in the PCB confirmed to The Express Tribune.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said its executive committee agreed unanimously that the October 29 match in Lahore should go ahead as scheduled following reassurances of the best possible security.

Pakistan delegation was headed by the Tehmina Janjua while the Sri Lankan side was led by their Foreign Secretary Prasad Kariyawasam.

Opener Fakhar Zaman departed early as Pakistan is 25-1 in second One Day International (ODI).
