Nifty hits all-time high of 10191, Sensex gains 300 points as inflation holds

The benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 200.95 points or 0.62 percent to 32,633.64, a record closing high, while the broader Nifty index ended up 63.40 points or 0.62 percent at 10,230.85.

It was a good start to the Diwali week on Monday as the market rallied sharply for third consecutive session and ended at fresh record closing high amid volatility.

Both the indices rose last week, with the Sensex adding 618.47 points, or 1.94 percent - the biggest such weekly jump since July 14 when it read 660.12 points, or 2.10 percent - and the NSE Nifty soared 187.75 points, or 1.88 percent.

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex rose by 200.95 points to close at an all-time high of 32,633.64 as investor optimism climbed following encouraging comments from the International Monetary Fund chief. The rupee appreciated by another 25 paise to 64.68 against the U.S. currency in early trade at the interbank forex market today on dollar selling by banks and exporters.

The rally came on the back of widespread gains led by metal, auto, FMCG, banking and oil & gas stocks.


With stable inflation, healthy domestic factory output data and a strong rupee giving a fillip to investors' risk-taking appetite, the wider Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) hit record highs on Friday.

According to data released by the Commerce Ministry, the WPI, with the revised base year of 2011-12, eased from 3.24 per cent in August.

Shares of Bharti Airtel and Bharti Infratel hit the 52-week highs, rising 1.7% and 1.5% respectively.

Federal Bank Ltd gained about 7 percent after posting upbeat second-quarter profit. As per this news, the response to the stock market increased. Japan's Nikkei too was up 0.63 per cent.

Globally, markets remained weak with China's blue-chip CSI300 index falling 0.2 per cent to 3,913.45, while the Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.4 per cent to 3,378.47.
