North Korea lawmaker: Need nukes because of U.S. threat

North Korea has threatened Australia and warned the country not to align with the United States

They also tightened the restrictions on North Korean workers in the European Union to try to stop money being sent home that could be used to fund the disputed weapons programmes.

"Australia is showing risky moves of zealously joining the frenzied political and military provocations of the USA", said the North Korean spokesperson.

Foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg signed a new package of measures, including a ban on investments in North Korea and on exports of oil to Pyongyang, AFP reported.

A defiant Australia has hit back at North Korea's threat, stating the country will never get intimidated after Pyongyang issued a warning to expect a "disaster".

During the visit, the ministers stressed the need for diplomatic pressure to thwart North Korea's nuclear ambitions and urged the country not to carry out any more weapons tests and halt its nuclear and missile program.

North Korea also have missile like the Scud-C MaRV, which is risky in the fact it has a final manoeuvrable stage which would allow it to fly under the Terminal High Altitude Defence system, which the U.S. has stationed in South Korea.

"Australia is not a primary target, and North Korea has made threats against Australia before", Ms Bishop said.

Kim has fired scores of missile test this year and detonated a H-bomb as the fears of war reach fever pitch in the Korean Peninsula.

Defence Personnel minister Dan Tehan reiterated Ms Bishop's comments, saying Australia "will not be cowed" by North Korea, and "will continue to do everything we can to protect and help and support our allies".

He said North Korea should obey all the United Nations security council resolutions which have been passed condemning their missile activity and attempts to develop a nuclear weapon.

According to the news agency, Bishop expressed her country's support for the U.S. stance in using all options, including military force, against North Korea, ABC News reported.
