Virgin announces Hyperloop One investment

Well you'll soon be able to as Virgin Group have announced they're investing a lot of money into Hyperloop One - the world's most revolutionary train service.

Several companies have been dabbling in hyperloop technology since Elon Musk released basic plans for the transit system several years ago, but none are as close to reality as Hyperloop One.

By using magnetic levitation and electric propulsion to accelerate a pod through a tube at near-vacuum, hyperloop hopefuls believe they can transport passengers at speeds up to 700 miles per hour, providing airline speeds on the ground.

Virgin Hyperloop One's rebrand will mean it gains from association with Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, whose high-tech transportation exploits include Virgin Galactic and other space-based ventures.

"We're incredibly excited about the technology behind Virgin Hyperloop One and the way it could transform passengers' lives", said Virgin's Richard Branson.

Trains: Hyperloop floats above the surface of the tube.

Eventually the magnetic levitation tech could reach target speeds of over 700mph, which would reduce the journey time from London to Edinburgh down to 50 minutes. Earlier this year, the company completed its first test track outside Las Vegas.

"Ever since our creation, Virgin has been known for disruption and investing in innovative companies", said Branson.

'From our airlines to our trains to our spaceline, we have always been passionate about innovation in transport too, especially the development of technology that could transform people's lives.

Before we can fly through vacuum tubes at almost the speed of sound, however, hyperloop technologies will need to advance quite a bit.

"This is just the latest example". Not only that, but a new investment from Branson and Virgin Group are bringing about a bit of a name change at the offices of Hyperloop.

Meanwhile, Musk is now working part-time on a similar project, called The Boring Company.
