Creed 2 Has Finally Locked In A Director

Sylvester Stallone says he's directing Creed 2

Stallone announced on Instagram on Monday that he will be directing and producing the "Creed" sequel. 2015's Creed was a masterful expansion of the world, introducing Michael B. Jordan's Adonis Creed (son of Apollo) and a new, more socially conscious outlook on what it means to be a modern underdog.

Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, upcoming Black Panther) directed the first movie to huge acclaim, but obviously will not return for this second instalment, which Stallone reveals through his message that should roll into production next year for a supposed 2019 release.

He also shared photos of Jordan from the first film to get fans exited about this sequel.

Though the muscly Italian American has become most recognisable as the action hero star of Rocky, Rambo and, more recently, The Expendables, Stallone is an experienced director with eight films under his belt since 1978's Paradise Alley. News for "Creed 2" just seems to leak out in small doses so no doubt more to come... He has quite a number of directorial credits including four films from the Rocky franchise the last being 2006's "Rocky Balboa". Sure, there's no denying the Coogler's Creed is definitely a towering achievement, but trading him out for Stallone is definitely not something worth brooding about.

Creed 2 is now expected in theaters sometime during 2019.
