Hatton wins at St Andrews during historic Dunhill

England Tommy Fleetwood became a father for the first time last week and sits on 11 under

Hatton became the first man to retain the Dunhill title - and only the second to win it twice - as he coasted to a final round 66 for a three shot margin of victory on 24-under aggregate of 264 - beating his own record from his victory past year by a shot.

Hatton carded a six-under 66 to end the week on 24 under - breaking the tournament's lowest 72-hole total - to finish three strokes clear of nearest challenger Ross Fisher and become the first player to achieve back-to-back victories in the event.

"To win your first tournament here at the Home of Golf is fantastic, but to back it up and successfully defend around these three courses is unique and very, very special".

"To win at the home of golf once is incredible but to do it again and defend would be a dream come true", Hatton said.

However, Fisher shot lights out on Sunday as he broke the Old Course record with a spectacular 11-under-par-61.

"Just wanted to come out here and put in a good performance, and if I could, try and repeat past year finishing tied second", Fisher said.

He carded seven birdies on the front nine and hit four more successive birdies from the 12th to stand at 11 under, but fell short of the magical figure as he parred the final three holes.

Another birdie on the fourth handed him a six-shot lead and while Bourdy closed the gap, a closing gain put Hatton in further control.

Just imagine the damage someone like Dustin Johnson could have done on a day like Sunday round there, though McIlroy, admittedly, is another of the game's long-hitters and that didn't seem to do him any good on this occasion.

"Fact is, more golf courses have closed in the United States in each of the last 10 years than have opened", said the 18-time major victor.

What a great round of golf from Fish, it's fantastic. Playing with Jamie we have good fun out there and it sort of keeps me relaxed which is what I need to do. "I got off to a fast start and managed to make some good putts early on". "You can't just figure out your shot a minute before you play it while somebody else is hitting because it changes by the time that comes up", Steele said about the windy conditions. "But I would definitely have taken it". "It's absolutely brilliant to win the Team Championship for a third time".

Another man who also made significant strides up the season rankings is Robert Rock.
