Trump attacks 'poor leadership' after San Juan mayor begs for help

'When you're drinking from a creek and don't have food for your baby, it's not

"We all have got to remember, the people of Puerto Rico are American citizens, entitled to the same help as the people of any other community in America". "I didn't see it as assigned to the people of Puerto Rico, I saw it as a personal difference with the mayor of San Juan".

When you're drinking from a creek, it's not a good news story.

His tweets came one day after Cruz issued an emotional plea for help, saying people are dying on the American territory and partially blaming stalled recovery efforts on the federal government's inefficiency and red tape.

The president said Carmen Yulin Cruz, the mayor of the island's capital, had been complimentary to him only a few days ago, but "has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump".

"Was she nasty to you?" "If I'm doing a film [a Lamborghini biopic opposite Antonio Banderas] in Rome in the fall, you can bet I'm going to be on a satellite from Rome doing Trump".

More rain this weekend may further delay efforts to deliver those supplies.

President Donald Trump on Sunday strenuously defended USA efforts to bring relief to storm-battered Puerto Rico, even as one island official said Trump was trying to gloss over "things that are not going well".

However, Puerto Rico is still facing a humanitarian crisis, and many of its people remain without power and water.

Donald Trump has lashed out at the mayor of San Juan and other officials in storm-ravaged Puerto Rico, criticising their claims of a slow USA response to the natural disaster which has imperilled the island's future. He also said 10,000 federal workers are in Puerto Rico.

He also noted that he and the first lady will be traveling to Puerto Rico and possibly the U.S. Virgin Islands, which were also hit by hurricanes.

Villaseñor promptly informs him that Puerto Rico is a USA territory.

"Maybe from where she's standing it's a good news story", Cruz said.

She explains to him that Puerto Rico is, in fact, part of the United States.

"Trust me, I know things are, as the locals say, Despecito", he says in a painful conversation with Yulín Cruz, who's played by Melissa Villaseñor.
