Ty Montgomery has minor rib injury, could play vs. Cowboys

Sep 18 2016 Minneapolis MN USA Green Bay Packers tackle Bryan Bulaga blocks Minnesota Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter in the third quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Vikings win 17-14

Earlier, the Packers lost Montgomery on their first drive Thursday due to broken ribs.

Those injuries paved the way for rookie running back Aaron Jones to play a big role.

The Green Bay Packers and fantasy football players alike may need a rookie to rescue their rushing attack after Ty Montgomery suffered a rib injury during Thursday's 35-14 victory over the Chicago Bears.

Montgomery had five carries for 28 yards on the opening series of the game before leaving with about 10 minutes left in the first quarter.

So far this season, the converted wide receiver has rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 46 carries. In the end, we'll have a better bearing on his ability to suit up once the Packers release their first Week 5 injury report Wednesday.

The Packers also got good news on rookie backup Jamaal Williams, who isn't expected to miss anything more than one game with a knee injury. Receiving a glowing review of his first National Football League action from Rodgers shows a lot about the young running back. Williams carried four times for 11 yards and did not look as explosive as Jones, nor did he create as much for himself.

However, Williams' talent alone makes him worth a waiver-wire pickup if he is still available.

Jones is a safety valve but at least worth considering with Green Bay's backfield dealing with so many health concerns. Jones also has been knocked for his pass protection, which could cut into his future usage.
