How to Watch Alaves vs. Real Madrid

Real Madrid marcelo marcelo injured Real Betis karim benzema

Dani Ceballos was the hero for Real Madrid in his debut on Saturday, scoring twice in the narrow 2-1 win over Deportivo Alaves at Estadio Mendizorrotza.

The former Betis midfielder's habit of making a late run into the box proved pivotal, as he displayed the calm usually associated with a striker for both of his goals, striking the ball with a calm that looked nearly Toni Kroos-esque in execution.

As for Alaves, on-loan Barcelona forward Munir El-Haddadi once again led the line for the Basque club, while on-loan Valencia midfielder Alvaro Medran started against his former club.

The away side's next opportunity did not arrive until the 23rd minute, but Ramos could only head Cristiano Ronaldo's chipped free kick into the arms of waiting Alaves goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco.

Both sides also went close in the final 20 minutes.

But Madrid responded three minutes later as Ronaldo broke down the right wing, took a shot which Alaves goalkeeper Pacheco fumbled, leaving Ceballos to fire a curling effort towards goal which flies into the bottom corner for his second of the night.

Alaves, who came into the goal without a point or a goal this season, equalised through Manu Garcia's header. Just three minutes after the equaliser, Ceballos struck again, with Pacheco failing to clear the initial chance.

Ramos then had a golden chance down the other end after Pacheco spilled the ball to the Real Madrid centre-back on the penalty spot, but the Spaniard somehow fired over the crossbar as the score stayed 2-1.

The winless Alaves nearly leveled late when substitute Alfonso Pedraza twice hit the woodwork.

But the Alaves substitute's stab under Navas bounced away off the frame of the goal again and Madrid escaped with the points.
