Disney World, Universal to reopen Tuesday after Irma sweeps through Florida

A Disney spokesperson has confirmed to INSIDER Disney World's four theme parks and Disney Springs will reopen Tuesday, September 12.

Walt Disney World and Universal Studios will reopen on Tuesday, officials with the parks said.

Signs posted inside its resorts on Monday afternoon indicated that the theme parks would be back open Tuesday at 9 a.m. but the Disney water parks would remain closed.

Trees were also knocked down at Animal Kingdom.

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground closed until further notice, including Hoop-de-Doo Musical Revue and Mickey's Backyard BBQ.

Hurricane Irma hit Florida as a Category 4 storm, but the eye passed well west of Orlando and had weakened to a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 85 miles per hour when it arrived there, USA Today reported.


Disney World, Sea World and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay said Monday that they assessing damage and would announce their reopening plans later.

Severe weather from Hurricane Matthew previous year also forced the theme park to shut down temporarily in October.

The Disney theme parks closed their gates on Saturday as Hurricane Irma made her way towards them.

SeaWorld Orlando had no significant damage "discovered as of initial checks on Monday morning", according to a statement from the park. A reopening date for Discovery Cove day resort has not yet been announced.

Elsewhere in Magic Kingdom, The Walt Disney World railroad is closed, due to lots of debris on the track, along with Tom Sawyer's Island...but it's okay if you didn't want to go to Tom Sawyer's Island in the first place.
