In book, Clinton admits mistakes, casts blame for 2016 loss

Hillary on

Clinton is now on a book tour for What Happened, her memoir from the presidential campaign that will be released Tuesday.

Despite taking much of the blame for the defeat, Clinton also named names in the book, including her former rival for the Democratic nomination, Vermont independent Sen.

While she has no plans to run for office again, Clinton said she will continue to play a role in the public sphere.

Despite Clinton's denials about the impact of her comment, an internal study conducted on behalf of her campaign suggested that voters were turned off by the quip.

Clinton previously said to Pauley she was so certain she would win against Donald Trump that she only wrote a victory speech rather than a concession speech.

"I think it's a little bit silly to keep talking about 2016", the senator added. Am I the person that people can trust in the end to make hard decisions?

Asked whether her career is over, Clinton said, "As an active politician, it's over". "Back up, you creep.' Well, you know, I didn't do the latter".

"I am good. But that doesn't mean I am complacent or resolved about what happened", she said. Although she knew she had to respond to the "virtual avalanche of messages" eventually, for now, her husband of more than 40 years is what she needed.

Clinton said the "most important of the mistakes" she made "was using personal email", and that she "missed a few chances" during her campaign.

"I just went into the bedroom, laid down on the bed, i just thought 'Okay".

'I thought a lot of his appeals to voters were deplorable, I thought his behavior as we saw on the Access Hollywood tape was deplorable.

Clinton suffered through the humiliation of attending President Trump's inauguration and fuming that he didn't use the speech to unify the country.

"Well, I thought Trump was behaving in a deplorable manner", she explained. "And I should've done a better job of demonstrating I get it". For the majority of Americans, he will be the bigoted, sexually assaulting, reality television star who only won the presidency with help from Putin and the Russians. "I'm sorry I gave them a political gift of any kind, but I don't think it was determinative", said Clinton.

'I was godsmacked, wiped out, ' she said. "'And, you know, Bill just kept saying, "Oh, you know, that was a terrific speech", tryin" to just kinda bolster me a little bit'.
