Hurricane Irma is literally sucking the water away from shorelines

32 million people in the Caribbean live in areas exposed to high-speed wind zones

Pictures and video of the weather phenomenon having been posted on social media and show beaches that would usually have several feet of water completely dry.

In the center of Irma, the pressure is very low and water is drawn upward in a sucking motion.

"I am in disbelief right now. This is Long Island, Bahamas and the ocean water is missing!" As the storm gobbles water towards its center, it gets pulled from its surroundings.

THIS was the freaky moment the devastating Hurricane Irma sucked water away from Caribbean beaches in a rare phenomenon.

But not many people could predict what the storm did to the ocean surrounding a few small Bahamian islands. You know they happen theoretically, but the chances of seeing the most extraordinary weather phenomena are slim to none.

He also warned that the water will come back soon - and residents should be cautious, since the water's return may be powerful.

It also sucked away ocean water from the shoreline at some beaches in the Bahamas.

Cuba was hit on Saturday with winds of up to 160mph, the first time the island had suffered such a strong hurricane since 1924.

Some Twitter users expressed concern over this rare occurrence as receding shoreline that exposes the ocean floor is often a sign of approaching Tsunami. The water will return to Long Island, and it probably won't rush back with any great force.

The eyewall is now lashing the lower Florida Keys as it prepares to continue along the western coast clipping Naples and Fort Myers before it hits Tampa.
