Yasin Malik arrested by NIA, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq put under house arrest

The National Investigation Agency raided the residence of Hurriyat leader Agha Syed Hassan in central Kashmir’s Budgam district

"The raids and searches were carried out in connection with the ongoing probe into the funding of militancy and separatist leaders and to unearth evidence to check linkages between LoC traders and hawala operators and their links with Hurriyat leaders", they said. "Mr. Qayoom is more than 65", reads the letter written by Anwar-ul-Islam Shaheen, joint secretary of the association.

At around 8.00 PM, scores of Aga's followers gathered outside his house and at Imambara of Budgam and they held a strong protest against the NIA search operation.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday raided the houses of the close associates of Hurriyat leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik. "Zameer was taken to Humhama by NIA for questioning", the sources said.

Eight persons including seven senior separatists and one businessman were arrested by NIA out of which one has turned approver in the case and has recorded his statement against anti-national activities of other Hurriyat leaders. Shakeel is patron of Islamic Student's League (ISL).

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate is likely to register a money laundering case against some separatist leaders facing investigation by the NIA on charges of receiving terror funding from across the border to stoke unrest in the valley.

On Wednesday, NIA had conducted raids on at least 27 locations in Srinagar and Delhi.

The NIA sleuths seized FDs worth Rs 1 crore and other incriminating material during the raids and searches.

SHO Budgam Rafi Ahmad told Kashmir Reader, "The NIA team left the residence of Agha Hassan around 7pm and reached Srinagar safely".

Searches are still on and the suspects are being questioned about the incriminating recoveries made from them.

However NIA did not arrest any of the suspects on Thursday. "A raid was also conducted at a premise at Gurugram". This arrest came a day after Malik visited the residences of slain Hizbul Mujahideen militants Sabzar Ahmed Bhat and Faizan Muzaffar in Tral area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district. The houses reportedly belong to LoC traders.

Meanwhile, Chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik have chose to protest and court arrest at the headquarters of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi on Saturday.
