Pliskova Powers Into US Open QFs, CoCo, Keys Advance; Venus-Kvitova Tuesday

Undeterred, Vandeweghe re-established her lead by break for a second time.

Rafael Nadal has advanced to the US Open quarterfinals with a 6-2 6-4 6-1 routing of Alexandr Dolgopolov.

Nadal got to the round of eight in NY for the first time since his 2013 title, overwhelming 64th-ranked Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-2, 6-4, 6-1.

Nadal is trying for his first U.S. Open quarterfinal appearance since winning the Grand Slam tournament in 2013.

The Estonian made the US Open quarters back in 2010, but she is yet to feature in a Grand Slam semi-final.

Now Nadal gets to play a fifth consecutive unseeded foe in Rublev, who took out No. 9 David Goffin 7-5, 7-6 (5), 6-3. "I really wanted to get the chance that I got after that match point".

The second match of the day at Arthur Ashe Stadium started perhaps a little earlier than expected, thanks to the ease of Karolina Pliskova's 6-1 6-0 victory over American Jennifer Brady.

Two days after he pushed a match ball to move to the next round, Pliskova has dominated its opponent as the fans continued to pour on the site of the stadium tennis Billie Jean King.

The U.S. Open runner-up a year ago, Pliskova advanced to face either No. 20 CoCo Vandeweghe or unseeded Lucie Safarova. "So for me, no changes". I didn't even practice yesterday. So there is nothing really what I did different.

The success Vandeweghe thought would instantly be hers has taken longer than she imagined, but that didn't matter to her on Wednesday.

The victory kept Pliskova in contention to retain her top ranking after the Open.

She wouldn't have much problem if she plays as she did in a almost flawless fourth-round performance, looking nothing like the player who almost went home a round earlier. However, Vandeweghe holds a 2-1 edge in head-to-head matches with Pliskova.

Pliskova, who saved a match point in a tough win over Shuai Zhang, only lost two points on first serve the whole match today. She won 25 points compared to just seven for Brady in the second round. Definitely she can play better than she was playing today. "I couldn't wish for anything better". "She said it best, we have to admire Serena and Venus, Lindsay and Jennifer, they all inspired me as an American coming up, and let's make it four for four". "I think she was kind of nervous, and also, with the shadow, I think she just didn't feel well".

Pliskova had come into the match with a tournament-leading 31 aces, but the Czech would add only two more as she struggled to establish control.
