'Surprised' PSG deny wrongdoing as Barcelona take action against Neymar

Cold war between Barcelona board and dressing room intensifies as Lionel Messi posts picture with Neymar after club confirm intentions to sue PSG star

Barcelona are to sue former player Neymar over his 222m euro (£200m) world record move to Paris St-Germain.

Neymar left Barcelona for PSG on August 3 in a €222 million (£197.3 million/$257 million) transfer.

The £7.8m fee relates to a "loyalty bonus" which was included in Neymar's contract, and paid to the player, when he penned a five-year extension in October of last year.

Neymar has made a stunning start to his time in Ligue 1, scoring three times in his first two games, but on Tuesday Barca released a statement confirming they were suing the forward for at least €8.5m.

La Liga accused PSG of violating Uefa's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and Barcelona previously said they would report the French side to Uefa for a FFP breach.

However, Neymar has clearly not forgotten his Barcelona roots.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Barca said they had passed the complaint on to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), having first filed the lawsuit in a Barcelona court on August 11.

The lawsuit was made public two days after the heralded goal-scorer criticized the club's directors following PSG's 6-2 win over Toulouse on Sunday.

In a statement, Barca said: "The club demands the player return the already paid sum as he has not completed his contract". "The club also requests that PSG subsidise the amounts in the event that the player can not take responsibility".

"FC Barcelona have taken these steps in order to defend their own interests after Neymar rescinded his contract with the club just a few months after signing a renewal until 2021". For me, they shouldn't be in charge of Barca.

Neymar said he was so sad with Barcelona's officials, after four great years at the club. "Barca deserve much better and everyone knows this", Neymar said.
