Broncos Insider: Time to name a starting QB?

Siemian wins QB job with Broncos Herald Staff Tuesday

In two preseason games, the third-year quarterback is completing 78 percent of his passes with a touchdown and zero picks. He also led the Broncos with three short scoring drives against the 49ers. But overall, the operation of the entire offense, decision making [and] ball placement was more consistent with Trevor. "That's why he won the job", Joseph said.

"If you name a starter, he's the guy going forward", Joseph said on August 15.

In what turned out to be the last chance for both quarterbacks to make their case on the field, Lynch finished 9-of-13 for 39 yards in nearly a full half of work and was behind center for three short scoring drives that each began in San Francisco territory following a 49ers turnover.

Lynch completed 15 of his 22 passes the last two weeks, but threw for just 81 yards, averaging 3.7 yards per attempt. "Still, no doubt, I have a long way to go again, but yeah, I think that's it".

Lynch showed more comfort with the new scheme and coaching staff but still proved inadequate at decoding defenses while Siemian was steady and solid, if unspectacular.

"The time frame's not important", Joseph said Saturday night.

The Broncos' decision in 2017 came slightly sooner as compared to when former coach Gary Kubiak awarded Siemian the job over Mark Sanchez and Lynch last summer.

Joseph was asked immediately following the game against the 49ers if he had now seen enough to make the call on a starter and didn't tip his hand.

Lynch posted a 74.2 passer rating while Siemian registered a 118.5 rating.
