New Orleans Saints fire two doctors for misdiagnosing injury

Report: Delvin Breaux's injury more than contusion

Ochsner Health System is supporting two of its physicians who were fired this week by the New Orleans Saints after allegedly misdiagnosing cornerback Delvin Breaux.

Triplett's report named the two orthopedists, Misty Suri and Deryk Jones, who were fired because of the misdiagnosis. A second opinion found there was actually a fracture in the fibula that would cause Breaux to miss 4-6 weeks.

Coach Sean Payton was livid, according to ESPN, which led to Drs.

On Tuesday night Payton spoke to the team about the situation in a closed doors meeting. "But what I will say is that I thought he did a great job of basically promising the team that they're gonna have people that are here in every area of the building - including the medical staff - that players feel like have their best interests at heart and are competent". While we were surprised, we will respect the decision of the Saints' leadership.

In 2011, Jones and Suri performed surgery on Payton after he suffered serious leg injuries in a sideline collision during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"He made that promise to the team".

Dr. Suri will still retain his post as team physician for the New Orleans Pelicans, and the company will continue to work with both organizations.

Breaux saw his 2016 season derailed by a broken fibula in Week 1. A broken fibula (the same injury he's now dealing with, but not believed to be a re-occurrence) and shoulder injury shortened his second campaign to just six games.

The Pelicans' training camp opens in late September.
