Lisa Theris survives Alabama wilderness for a month (on berries and mushrooms)

Girl Who Went Missing For A Month In Alabama Wilderness Found Alive

The missing woman's discovery came after Theris made it to the wood line on Highway 82 and was spotted by a driver around 2pm on Saturday.

Each man implicated the other as being the last to see her alive, however, neither claimed to know her whereabouts.

The witness saw Lisa while she was in the bushes, said Sheriff Raymond Rodgers, WSFA reports.

Missing for upwards of a month, Theris a radiology student told of being bereft of shoes or shelter for up to 28 days, surviving off berries and wild mushrooms in dense forest in Alabama's Midway, Bullock County district.

Theris was treated at the local emergency room and reunited with her family, who rushed to Bullock County after receiving the news that she was found.

Lisa said she had tried to keep walking, but because of her hunger and exhaustion she was often following her own tracks. She said she was drinking water out of a brook and eating berries and... Theris told police that once she realized the men were going to commit a crime, she wanted nothing to do with the burglary and jumped out of their vehicle and ran into the woods.

According to investigators, Theris' family last heard from her on July 18 and reported her missing on July 23. "She called us and told us she located the missing person", said Rodgers. "I just thank God she's alive", the sheriff said. "The bugs had really been on her and she had a lot of scratch marks", he added. By the time she was rescued this weekend, she had lost 50 pounds. Both men were held on $250,000 bail. "So when I got word she was found alive, my whole world flipped upside down again".

"She ran into the wooded area at night", Rodgers told the NBC affiliate based in Montgomery, Alabama.

Theris' brother Will wrote an emotional Facebook post along with a picture of his sister. "Her will to live is incredible", Bullock County Sheriff's Sergeant Faulkner said to WTVY. "She had been out lost in the woods".

Manley Davis, 31, and Randall Oswald, 36, broke into a hunting lodge in Midway but Lisa did not want to be part of the theft. We didn't ask her too many questions. Williams said none of Theris' injuries were severe, according to BuzzFeed News.

Her brother, who spoke to WSFA, said that while there have been "complications", his sister is still "standing strong".

"She is severely weakened, she is in pain, she is emaciated", she continued. "We are very thankful for everyone's thoughts and prayers and look forward to our baby fully recovering".
