CMT Remembers Glen Campbell premieres Thursday, August 10 at 8:30 a.m. ET and repeats Friday night in prime time at 7 p.m. ET. "His sense of humor was incredible and we never laughed so much as when he was with us".

Watch the trailer for Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me below; it's now streaming on Netflix. By six, it was clear the farmer's son was a musical prodigy.

Campbell left home at the age of 14, performing on radio and television in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before landing in Los Angeles in 1960.

As USA Today reported, Campbell had a pithy explanation for his speedy exit from the farming town where he was born.

She said: "Glen Campbell was special because he was so gifted".

Campbell performed on tracks for stars such as Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra and his smooth guitar licks can be heard on the Righteous Brothers hit You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling and on the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.

Campbell's career started to move center stage - or at least further to the front of it - with a few modest hits beginning with "Turn Around, Look at Me", a 1961 single he recorded for Crest Records; "Kentucky Means Paradise", a 1962 tune recorded with the Green River Boys; and "Swingin' 12 String Guitar" as part of the Folkswingers in 1963. His album, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, was named Album of the Year at the 1968 Grammy Awards. He and Tucker broke up acrimoniously in 1981, but he went on to find Christ and end his substance abuse. The country superstar went on a farewell tour, starred in a documentary and recorded an album of his favorite songs before his mind evaporated into Alzheimer's disease.

He was also a victor for Grammy Awards for four times in the different pop categories.

In 2005, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

But Campbell himself remained upbeat. He and his fourth wife Kim Woolen made his Alzheimer's diagnosis public in 2011.

"He said, 'It's not like I am going to miss anybody anyway, '" Raymond said. "There's no shame in my game and I am going to go out singing the song.' That was Glen". "And maybe he was the bravest man I've ever known".
