Trump's Transgender Ban Will Cost The Military $960 Million To Implement

While Trump Pushes his Trans Military Ban, the Majority of America has Weighed in Against It

Five transgender individuals from the US military including Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans sued President Donald Trump on Wednesday, testing his restriction on transgender individuals serving in the military.

In the three tweets, Trump said: "After consultation with my generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the USA military".

Trump's tweet-policy purports to repeal a policy the Pentagon adopted just a year earlier that allows transgender troops to serve openly.

The lawsuit filed by GLAD and the National Center Lesbian Rights isn't the only legal initiative planned against Trump's anti-trans military policy.

The plaintiffs are a Coast Guard member who has written a prospective letter of resignation; an Air Force active-duty service member of almost 20 years who served twice in Iraq; and three Army soldiers.

Liberty Counsel previously met with White House officials and others about the need to reverse the Obama military policy.

All five transgenders stated they came out as transgender precisely because of the ban repeal.

In 2016, the former Obama administration lifted a prior ban on transgender troops that permitted transgender members now serving to come out openly. 'My experience has been positive and I am prouder than ever to continue to serve.

'I reached out personally to Lt. Taylor Miller, who was featured on the cover of The Washington Post last week, ' Military.com quoted Zukunft as saying.

"These are individuals who have to make immediate choices about training, about re-enlistment, about health care, about the future of their families, and they have been told by the President of the United States that a ban on their future service is in the process of being implemented", Miller added.

It asks the court to declare Trump's directive as unconstitutional and to issue injunctions to stop it.

In addition to Trump, the U.S. Army, Air Force and Coast Guard are also included as defendants in the legal challenge, as well as Defense Secretary James Mattis.

The claim said Trump's tweets damage the privileges of the administration individuals to due process and equivalent assurance under the law.

Five transgender women who served their country for about a half century collectively - and have done so openly since 2016 - volleyed a federal court offensive Wednesday at the president of the United States and his senior military leaders.

On July 26, Trump took to social media to announce that transgender Americans would be barred from military service.

The Pentagon does not count self-declared transgender personnel, but outside groups have estimated that 1,300 to 16,000 members of the military could be affected by a ban.

"The damage is happening now", said Jennifer Levi, Director of GLAD's Transgender Rights Project. "We are still waiting for more guidance from the White House".

But the suit filed Wednesday argues there is already a draft policy or de facto policy, stating, "Upon information and belief, the White House outlined a plan to end the active service of transgender servicemembers to be transmitted to the Department of Defense for implementation".
