Borussia Dortmund reject Barcelona bid for Dembele and suspend player

Barcelona Closing Ousmane Dembele

We hope nothing bad has happened'.

The German side have said their offer "did not correspond to the player's extraordinary footballing abilities nor to the present economic market situation of the European transfer market".

Dembele, who has made no secret of his desire to play for Barcelona, may have been trying to break the deadlock with his no-show, Bild suggested.

"We don't know where he is".

Barcelona are eager to bring in at least one star quality signing following the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, with Dembele, who enjoyed a fine first season with Dortmund, having emerged as one of the Catalan club's main targets.

"We tried to reach him but we were unable to", Dortmund coach Peter Bosz told reporters.

"Borussia Dortmund has held talks with FC Barcelona regarding the possible transfer of the BVB player Ousmane Dembélé to FC Barcelona", the statement read.

"Ousmane Dembélé missed training today without notifying the club and has clearly taken this action consciously".

After joining his Dortmund teammates for the official team photo on Wednesday, Dembele went missing on Thursday.

But Liverpool manager Klopp remains adamant the 25-year-old will stay at Anfield no matter what Barca are prepared to pay.

Reports in Germany claim Dortmund have rejected a bid from the Spanish giants and there are rumours claiming he is on his way to Barcelona.

Sporting director Michael Zorc denied that a deal had been struck, while CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said it will take a bid of over €100 million to convince them to sell the 20-year-old France global.

Dortmund only signed Dembele from Rennes last summer for €15m and the Frenchman has impressed in his debut season in the Bundesliga.
