IPhone 8 Design Leak Shows No Home Button, Facial Recognition

Apple HomePod firmware has revealed that the upcoming iPhone 8 will come with a bezel-less design along with a new facial recognition technology. The code is believed to include references to Apple's upcoming iPhone, including a set of commands for how a feature referred to as "BKFaceDetect" should work.

This lack of a Home button would seemingly also do away with iPhone's finger-scanning Touch ID unlocking.

Apple hasn't confirmed any of these features, of course, but the developer documentation for HomePod appears to offer the clearest indication yet that this year's big new iPhone will include a facial recognition feature and an nearly full-size display. Adding to these findings, another iOS developer Guilherme Rambo dug into the HomePod firmware and found out that the upcoming iPhone 8 will have the codename D22.

Expect to see the iPhone 8 appear around the time the HomePod is released later this year.

The rumor mill has gradually ratcheted up as far as Apple's yet to be announced iPhone 8 has been concerned. The icon had been among the Apple Pay files and is codenamed "D22".

One iOS developer discovered numerous references to a face detection system within the BiometricKit framework-the same place where Touch ID fingerprint authentication resides. The firmware code was released for developers early in order to start development for the HomePod speaker. The virtual home button is called the "home indicator", and will most likely be hidden in certain contexts such as when watching a video. This feature would allow users to wake their smartphone by simply tapping on the display screen. The firmware is essentially the same as the iPhone firmware, but it has a few alterations. It seems odd to think of an Apple leak as "rare", but most leaks happen from Apple's suppliers or an inside source sharing info with a reporter or analyst.

Apple is really, really serious about keeping its secrets and the company goes to great lengths to enforce a culture of secrecy around new products and prevent any leaks. The images will tell us more information regarding the iPhone 8 front, a design which is same as we predicted in leaks.
