Tyler Jarrell, 18, of Columbus, was thrown about 50 feet and pronounced dead on the midway.

The family of Tyler Jarrell has turned to the law firm Kitrick, Lewis, & Harris to investigate the incident and handle the wrongful death case.

Amusements of America, the company that provides rides to the state fair, said it is committed to working with investigators to determine the cause.

Jarrell's mother says everyone who knew him "is grief-stricken and in shock".

But the death of a teenager when a ride failed at the Ohio State fair this week has put a damper on the usual festivities. Two people remained in critical condition and another in serious condition after multiple surgeries, according to the Wexner Medical Center.

John Kasich said he has ordered a full investigation and ordered all rides closed until additional safety inspections can be conducted.

She said the company does not run the Ohio State Fair but has "several Fire Ball rides and we have shut all of ours down until further notice from the manufacturer".

"She kept asking for her boyfriend", Clarissa Williams said. The Marine Corps and school officials said Jarrell enlisted last week and was to begin basic training after his high school graduation next year.

Forty-three Fire Balls exist, including 11 in the United States, and the company said this week's accident was the first major problem involving any of the rides. "When it was time to go, they wanted to ride it one more time", Brian Best, who is a teacher at Martins Ferry Middle School, said of his children.

Ohio Department of Agriculture records provided Thursday to the AP show passing marks on inspections of about three dozen items including cracks, brakes, proper assembly, and installation. They will continue their ride inspection process, which includes inspecting all rides multiple times prior to and during the fair.

Still, it must be explained what went so wrong Wednesday, especially since Ohio's county fair season is underway.
