Despacito singers veto Venezuelan leader's campaign remix

Today in Entertainment: 'Despacito' is now the most-streamed song ever; 'Teen Wolf' might be howling a different tune

Last week record label Universal Music Latin Entertainment said Despacito in its original and remixed versions had reached 4.6 billion streams across platforms including YouTube and Spotify, making it the most streamed song of all time.

Shortly after, Daddy Yankee also took a similar stance on Instagram, sharing a photo of Maduro with a big red X over it and a Spanish caption condemning the Venezuelan president's use of his song.

Rewriting the constitutional is immensely unpopular in Venezuela, where the pollster Datanalisis found that 85 percent of people oppose the move, and many believe it's a power grab by Maduro ahead of next year's presidential elections.

On Sunday, Maduro released a remix of "Despacito" with lyrics that promoted his goal to change the country's constitution, with what seems to be an eye to change law to extend his own term. But not even Justin Bieber himself, whose guest verses turned this into a monster hit, knows the lyrics.

The new lyrics go on like this: "Our call to the "Constituent Assembly" only seeks to unite the country".

The Malaysian government has a problem with the most-streamed song of all-time and will no longer play it on the radio. He captioned the picture, saying: "That you illegally appropriate a song [Despacito] does not compare with the crimes you commit and have committed in Venezuela".

"What can you expect?" he wrote, "Of a person who has stolen so many lives from young dreamers".

"Your dictatorial regime is not only a mockery for my Venezuelan brothers but for the entire world", he said in an Instagram post Monday. Those in favor of rewriting the constitution, however, say the president is simply hoping to restore peace in his fractured country.

Millions of Venezuelans have been staging months of protests against Maduro, a former bus driver and union leader narrowly elected to replace the late Hugo Chavez in 2013.

That plan by Maduro has already been met with mass street protests, an unofficial plebiscite rejecting it, a nationwide strike and a warning by the USA of economic sanctions if the vote goes ahead.
