Parliament set for stormy monsoon session from today

No bouquet to be presented to PM Narendra Modi during his tours within country MHA to states

Ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament and the Presidential polls on Monday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government has convened for an all-party meeting on Sunday to seek the Opposition's support for the smooth conduct of proceedings in both the Houses. The Vice-President also condemns the killing of Amarnath pilgrims in a terrorist attack.

Opposition is likely to raise the heat on the government over issues like lynching incidents and vigilantism, the Kashmir situation and the border stand-off with China.

The Opposition parties that include the Congress, CPI-M, Trinamool Congress, Samajwasdi Party, Nationalist Congress Psarty, BSP, Janata Dal-United, the Rashtriya Janata Dal and DMK among others have already clarified that besides the elections of the President and Vice-President, they will have floor coordination in Parliament to corner the government.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said that apart from 16 new bills, 21 bills are pending in Lok Sabha, while 42 bills are pending in Rajya Sabha, many of which would be considered for passing during the session.

He said the CPI-M will also raise the issues of Kashmir situation, border tensions with China as well as Pakistan, and agrarian crisis. The government has closed all doors for dialogue on Kashmir "which has led to political suffocation in the valley", Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said.

The Rajya Sabha also paid tributes to its sitting members Anil Madhav Dave and P Govardhan Reddy who passed away recently.

Yechury further said that at the present time, it is important to introduce three new bills, which have not been included in the list of the NDA government, but hold utmost importance.

The Prime Minister has this morning thanked all parties for helping launch the mega reform Goods and Services Tax or GST, saying GST also stands for "Growing Strong Together".
