Huerter, Team USA lose to Canada

Canada defeats France in quarter-finals at men's under-19 hoops World Cup

Team USA took out its frustration on Spain in the bronze medal game of the FIBA Under-19 World Cup on Sunday.

Canada won the title after defeating Italy 79-60 in the final match.

Kigab, a 6-7 small forward, had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists for Canada.

Kentucky-bound big man P.J. Washington led the way in the scoring column for the United States of America, tallying 17 points. For USA head coach John Calipari and the rest of his team, it was the first loss since 2011 when Paul Hewitt was the coach, as noted by Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.

Barrett, the young phenom from Mississauga and the son of longtime national team standout Rowan Barrett, had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in the gold-medal game as Canada led from start to finish. Kibab and Brampton ON's Danilo Djuricic each hauled in 10 rebounds, helping Canada to a 71-46 rebounding edge.

New Albany senior Romeo Langford played just three minutes, but the United States advanced to the medal round with an 81-59 win over Germany on Friday afternoon in Cairo, Egypt. "It hasn't happened before and I think some of us just didn't even know what to make of it". But, with 1.3 seconds remaining before the second quarter buzzer, Barrett was fouled on a deep 3 attempt, and after sinking all three free throws, Canada headed to the locker room with a 45-42 lead and Barrett having accounted for 25 of those points.

The U.S. will meet Spain on Sunday for third place. 6-foot-11 UNLV signee Brandon McCoy, the team's second leading scorer, added eight points and seven caroms. The Americans had a 51-35 rebound advantage.
