GST will unite us financially, says Arun Jaitley

India marches towards tax transparency: Modi

Amid confusions and queries over different rate slabs of GST, Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has launched a mobile app to clear doubts about the different rates of GST.

The app will help consumers to find accurate prices of each good they buy in any store in the country.

Download the "GST Rate Finder" App from Playstore on your Android Mobile Phones.

The study listed the negative implications of the GST for MSMEs as being the lower threshold, no tax differentiation for luxury items and services, increase in product cost, selective tax levying, and higher tax rate for service provider.

CBEC has launched the GST rates mobile app with the key objective of facilitating the ease of doing business in India initiative.

Speaking at a seminar on the new taxation system GST in Raipur on Sunday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that with the implementation of GST trade and logistic facilities will become easier across the country.

A taxpayer can search for applicable CGST, SGST, UTGST rate and Compensation Cess on a supply.

Sitharaman further informed that the idly dough manufacturing industry has also approached for a revision of the tax rate under the GST. As per CBEC, the GST Rate Finder application will soon be accessible on the iOS stage also. The app Home page contains the options like Quick search where users can quickly get access to desired Goods and Services by just entering the text in a search box.

The finance ministry came out with a clarification after reports suggested that some unscrupulous elements posing as GST officers have tried to fleece shopkeepers and customers in the name of GST.

For instance, users can cross check their hotel or restaurant bill against the GST rate charged.

The government on Monday defended the 12% GST rate on sanitary napkins, saying a lower rate would put domestic manufacturers at a "huge disadvantage".
