Trump discusses migration, trade with European leaders ahead of summit

Thousands rally in Hamburg over looming G20 summit

On Monday, Merkel sought to downplay expectations of her meeting with Trump and unity on a final communique from the G20 summit.

Berlin | Donald Trump and Angela Merkel intend to meet in head-to-head just before the G20 summit this week, said Monday the spokesman of the German chancellor, so that the areas of friction increased between the two leaders.

"The president said that he looks forward to helping Chancellor Merkel make the summit a success", it said.

Another British official said no firm plan had yet been made for Trump's state visit to Britain.

The pursuit of one-sided economic interests risks creating "irreconcilable conflicts" between states, she said. "We see it differently", she said.

"According to the usual practice, BRICS leaders will hold an informal meeting ahead of the G-20 summit in Hamburg,"Sputnik quoted Li Baodong, China's Vice Foreign Minister".

In the conversation with Abe, the White House said both leaders were united on increasing pressure on North Korea to "change its unsafe path" and the United States and Japan are ready to respond to "any threat or action taken by North Korea". He called on Gulf leaders urging them to resolve the current ongoing dispute with Qatar in a diplomatic manner.

Germany and China are expected to take up more of the leadership role long held by the United States at the upcoming Group of 20 (G-20) meeting, Bloomberg reported Monday.

ABOUT 4,000 people marched through Hamburg yesterday protesting at climate and trade policies due to be discussed at the G20 summit in the city.

The two-day meeting is of particular significance as the U.S. President Donald Trump will not only make his debut at his first meeting, he is also set to meet numerous world leaders for the first time at the G20.
