Naby Keita move gains momentum with claims player wants to leave Leipzig

Liverpool told to pay £70.4m to sign quality Bundesliga star

The 22 year old Guinean footballer has been widely rumoured as a potential target for the reds throughout this summer, with Liverpool grappling with Lucas Leiva's advancing years, injuries to Jordan Henderson and uncertainty surrounding the future of Emre Can.

Liverpool tied up their first signing of the summer last week as winger Mohamed Salah joined the Reds in a club-record deal from Roma.

It's understood Liverpool are preparing a £50million offer for Keita but the Merseyside outfit may have to shell out significantly more to land the RB Leipzig midfielder ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Even with the enormous wealth of the Premier League, £70m feels like an excessive valuation but Liverpool would be buying potential - with Keita just 22 - and a player who has been personally requested by Jurgen Klopp.

The midfielder was a revelation for RB last season, helping them finish runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga title race, which in turn, earned qualification for the Champions League.

Leipzig have not yet confirmed that they have set a price for Keita, only insisting that they hope to hold on to the player for at least another season.

Whether Liverpool will be willing to stretch to Leipzig's potentially excessive price demands remains to be seen, however.

Last season, Keita contributed eight goals and seven assists from 31 appearances as Leipzig claimed second place in the Bundesliga table.

This time, however, Virgil Van Dijk decided that he did want to move to Liverpool, only for the club to make a royal mess of the deal, which ended with a public apology to Southampton.
