Missing Boy's Father Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say Aramazd Andressian Sr. was arrested in Las Vegas where he's being held in lieu of $10 million bail in connection with the murder of 5-year-old Aramazd Andressian Jr. who was last seen April 21

Authorities arrested South Pasadena father Aramazd Andressian Sr. on the murder charges of his five-year-old son at 1pm Friday in Las Vegas, officials said.

Authorities say Andressian and Aramazd were last seen on April 20 when they visited Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

The father's attorney, Robert Nardoni, says his client is innocent.

The search for the boy has spanned several Southern California counties, including in the Lake Cachuma Recreation Area near Santa Barbara, where Andressian told authorities he took the boy the day after the Disneyland trip. Andressian tried to change his appearance by shaving his beard and coloring his hair, said Lt. Joe Mendoza. "I hope and pray for the safe return of my only child, my namesake", he said in the statement obtained by KTLA-TV in Los Angeles.

Investigators have been searching for Aramazd Jr., or "Ara", since his father was found passed out in a park in South Pasadena on April 22.

Sheriff's investigators presented evidence to LA County prosecutors, who deemed it sufficient to arrest Andressian, the statement said.

Andressian Sr. had been found unconscious at Arroyo Park in South Pasadena later that morning; the boy was nowhere to be seen. 17, 2017, file photo, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau Capt. Christopher Bergner, center, stands by a poster of Aramazd Andressian Jr., a 5-year-old boy who has been missing for several weeks from South Pasadena, Calif., at a news conference outside the Hall of Justice in Los Angeles. Investigators also believe Andressian was planning to leave the U.S. and flee to a country that does not have an extradition agreement with the U.S., Mendoza said. Police have alleged that the inside of his auto was doused with gasoline and there were matches in his vehicle.

Andressian was booked on homicide charges at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Andressian Sr. told detectives he had taken his son there that day, but surveillance video and multiple witness accounts place him alone at the location; investigators said they have no evidence that the child was with him when he went. The boy's father had reportedly recently moved into the home, where investigators "seized various items of evidence", according to a sheriff's statement released at the time. A news conference is scheduled for Monday.

Almost a week after the boy was reported missing, Andressian released a statement through his attorney. The boy was first reported missing by his mother when her estranged husband didn't bring him home at the agreed upon time.

"Piqui was everything great in my life and I can not imagine the emptiness and void that I will bear until we are together again some day", she said.

Officials confirm that Andressian and his wife, Ana Estevez, are embroiled in a bitter divorce, but they shared custody of their son.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at 323-890-5500.
