Mayor promises Stanley Cup parade, but plans unclear so far

Penguins win Stanley Cup for second consecutive year sArtHead =

Crosby had eight goals and 27 points in 24 games of this playoff run, and it's Game 5 that may have swung the vote in his favor. Neither team scored until former Predator Patric Hornqvist beat Pekka Rinne (PEH'-kuh REE'-nay) from a bad angle with 1:35 remaining.

An average of 2.67 million Canadian viewers tuned in to see the Stanley Cup final between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators, Rogers Sportsnet said in a release Monday.

Crosby was named the most valuable player to his team in the playoffs on Sunday for the second year in a row after his Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Nashville Predators 2-0 in Game 6 of the final for their second straight Stanley Cup.

"There's so many guys who could have easily won that, and I think we just had a group of guys that understood big moments and knew how to find ways to win", said Crosby.

Carl Hagelin sealed the win by scoring into an empty net with 14 seconds left in leading the Penguins to become the first National Hockey League team in almost two decades to win consecutive championships. The Predators appeared to score a goal early in the second period, but referees waved it off. It is also the third championship for Crosby and a handful of teammates from the 2009 title team, surpassing the two won by the Penguins teams led by current owner Mario Lemieux in the 1990s.

Last year, a crowd of 400,000 people lined the streets of Pittsburgh to take in the parade following the Penguins' six-game Stanley Cup victory over San Jose.

The Stanley Cup is staying in the Steel City. Nashville went through St. Louis and then Anaheim, with only captain Mike Fisher carrying any Cup Final experience on the roster.
