Global stocks lower as oil extend falls

Terminal 2 Tested at Pudong International Airport

The decision was hailed as a major endorsement of China's reform agenda, but it also comes at a time of renewed concerns following a flurry of corporate scandals and a surge in public campaigns by activist investors alleging problems with fraud, financial engineering and market manipulation. But whether they would want to is another matter.

It was a historic day for Chinese financial markets yesterday with the nation's mainland-listed stocks gaining admission to the MSCI's indices after three unsuccessful attempts, paving the way for increased foreign investment in the years ahead. With so much historical data available, investors may choose to look at many different time frames when examining a stock.

Before the announcement, Aberdeen Asset Management estimated the move would generate inflows from index-tracking funds of no more than $15bn.

However, it could spark capital outflows from other emerging markets in the EM Index, some worry.

Last year, internationally listed Chinese stocks proved a better bet than their local counterparts.

Mainland companies to be added to the index include China Merchants Bank, Guotai Junan and Ping An Insurance.

The index giant said it will add 222 China A Large Cap stocks on a gradual basis beginning next year.

PGIM's local research shows the trends playing out that investors should capture to be represented by middle- and small-cap stocks instead.

The reduced weightings will result in investors who follow the index cutting their exposure to these markets to stay aligned with the benchmark. Traders may use the indicator to spot stock trends or to seek out overbought/oversold conditions. If given full factor inclusion, China's weighting, including offshore HK-listed shares, could potentially quadruple to an estimated 8%.

China's top regulator will work to improve the systems and rules for foreigners investing in the country's "A" shares, after 222 Chinese blue-chip companies were accepted for inclusion in a leading emerging markets benchmark, state media reported. Checking in on some other technical levels, the 14-day RSI is now at 37.01, the 7-day stands at 28.67, and the 3-day is sitting at 27.52.

The drivers of growth for the Chinese economy, however, are far from the same as a decade ago.

Yields on 10-year U.S. Treasury rose to 2.171% Wednesday from 2.153% Tuesday, after dropping earlier in the morning.

Less competitive export and manufacturing amid higher Chinese wages as automation and protectionism overseas makes domestic, developed-market manufacturing more advantaged is chief among them, said Hyat.

He said the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect paved the way for the inclusion.

Some of the most-exciting opportunities the firm sees are in financial technologies like payments, Hyat said.

The development punctuates an extraordinary period during which China has sought to enter the mainstream of Global finance while still maintaining a semblance of control over its markets.
