Would-be gunman launched into Trump tirade before shooting

James Hodgkinson of Belleville protests outside of the United States Post Office in Downtown Belleville Ill. A government official says the suspect in the Virgini

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and three other people were wounded in the attack.

He remained in critical condition on Thursday, CBS News reported.

According to officials briefed on the FBI investigation, the list included congressmen Trent Franks of Arizona, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Mo Brooks of Alabama, and a few others that officials would not reveal.

Hodgkinson was injured in a shootout with police and later died of his injuries, according to officials.

Recalling Hodgkinson's profanity-laden tirade, Dauberman said: "It was more than the average person who had maybe voted for Hillary [Clinton]".

Brooks and Franks were at the baseball field where the shooting happened, but Duncan had left before the gunman had opened fire.

Also wounded in the attack were Congressional staffer Zachary Barth, Tyson Foods' Director of Government Relations Matt Mika, and Capitol Police Officer Crystal Griner.

Brooks' office told WAFF 48 News they could not comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

Duncan said he spoke to Hodgkinson before the shooting.

For all his complaining about Republicans, he had little to do with Democratic politics in his hometown.

Doctors say Scalise has a good possibility of recovery after he was at "imminent risk of death" from a gunshot wound to the hip two days ago. The FBI also recovered a computer, a camera, and a cellphone from the shooter's vehicle, which it is still being processed, according to a statement released on June 15. Authorities believe he was living out of a van since leaving IL in March; his brother said he was in the capital region to protest President Trump.

The gunman who opened fire on congressmen at a Virginia baseball field on Wednesday had a list of Republican names in his pocket at the time of the incident, Fox News has confirmed.

"According to [the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] weapons traces of the 9mm handgun and 7.62mm rifle found at the scene were legally purchased by the shooter with federal licenses", the FBI said in a statement.
