Trump again lashes out at Russian Federation probe, says he is being investigated

Trump tweets his frustration with Russia investigation

It was not clear whether the President was basing his tweet on direct knowledge that he is under investigation, or on reports this week that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether the President obstructed justice by firing Mr Comey last month amid the ongoing Russian Federation investigation.

Notably, James Comey, who was sacked by Trump last month, publicly testified this month that Trump had told him to ease off on his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was under the FBI investigation for his Russian links.

Some speculated Brand may have to step in after it was revealed that special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

His investigation then grew to include looking at whether President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey because he was unwilling to back off the Russian Federation investigation.

"Mr. Trump's apparent reference to Mr. Rosenstein, who oversees the Russian Federation investigation because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from it, came just hours after an oddly worded statement from Mr. Rosenstein complaining about leaks in the case".

Recent news reports have suggested Mr Trump sought all three officials' help in pressuring Mr Comey to drop his investigation into former national security adviser Mike Flynn. Trump had previously boasted that he was not personally under investigation, and Comey said the president had repeatedly pressured him to publicly clear him.

But Sessions is recused entirely from the Russian Federation investigation - that was reason why Rosenstein, the second-ranking official at the Justice Department, had the authority to hire the special counsel - so it's unlikely that he could be the person investigating Trump. "Witch Hunt", Trump stated in a Twitter message. Sad!" Trump tweeted. "Despite the phony Witch Hunt going on in America, the economic & jobs numbers are great.

Trump's tweet Friday reflected the first official confirmation that he is being investigated by the special counsel for the reasons he fired Comey last month.

Until now, the White House has been essentially silent on whether Trump was actually a target of a federal investigation.

The Post's information on Coats is based on anonymous sources who claimed Trump asked Coats whether he could ask Comey to back off the FBI's focus on Flynn.

A person familiar with Mueller's inquiry, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Thursday Mueller was looking into whether Trump or others attempted to obstruct the Russian Federation investigation.

As head of the FBI, Comey had been leading the investigation until he was sacked by Trump on May 9.
