Saudi foreign minister says working on list of Qatar "grievances"

As tensions simmer in the Persian Gulf, the United Arab Emirates says its allies in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain do not trust Qatar, calling for a Western body to monitor Doha.

Jubeir said the list being compiled by the four Arab countries were not "demands" but "a list of grievances that need to be addressed and that the Qataris need to fix". The statement, quoting an unnamed official, said Saudi Arabia "does not need such thing", adding that its armed forces and military capabilities were "at the best standards".

"The nation of Qatar, unfortunately, has historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level", Trump said in a speech at the White House.

Al Jazeera said on June 8 it was combating a large-scale cyber attack but that all its entities remained in operation. They are demanding far greater concessions from Qatar than they ever did in the past - such as closing Al-Jazeera and expelling Hamas leaders - in return for restoring ties.

The signing of the deal was the latest twist in the highly contradictory USA diplomacy over tensions between Qatar and the Persian Gulf Arab countries.

"If you are a true ally, and a member of the GCC", he says, "you can not be supporting extremist groups, you can not be in the same trench with Iran". Asked by Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency if the talks had found a solution, Cavusoglu replied: "No".

"They are still in the base but likely to leave within the next two days".

He said the problem can be solved in a short time because there are no grounds to the crisis.

What has been happening in the last few weeks is the product of the accumulation of years of unresolved tensions, driven by multiple factors, he says. "If we get clear strategic signals that Qatar is going to change and it will stop funding militants that is the basis for a discussion", he said in London. "We pay a great attention to our relations with them".

Washington is involved in diplomatic efforts to resolve the impasse in the region but United States policy has proved unpredictable.

"Trump has been tweeting and expressing on some occasions very clear support for Saudi Arabia but the rest of the USA government apparatus has been taking a much more nuanced position", Juneau said.
