Clippers nearing plans build arena near Inglewood

It now appears that plans are in the works to make it happen.

The $2.6-billion football stadium will open for both the Rams and Chargers in time for the 2020 season.

Assuming the votes for the ENA go positively, the Clippers will announce the news on Thursday.

According to multiple sources, the Clippers and the city of Inglewood are closing in on entering an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement (ENA) on 22 acres of land between Prairie and Yukon Avenue south of Century Boulevard. The old Forum is right next to the Rams stadium project meaning Inglewood would have two state of the art arenas in the same city. The city will receive $1.5-million to defray costs associated with the effort.

The Los Angeles Clippers might be leaving the Staples Center in L.A. for greener pastures in the near future. An AEG spokesman said the company wasn't aware of the pending agreement with Inglewood.

This would be the first time the Clippers had a home of their own since 1984. The Clippers are effectively third in the pecking order when it comes to scheduling priority and need approval for anything they would want to do in the arena physically or cosmetically. The front of the arena is littered with statues honoring great Lakers and Kings players from Magic Johnson to Wayne Gretzky. Previous year that stairway was named the "Ralph Lawler Media and Team Member Entry", in honor of the Clippers' longtime play-by-play announcer.
