Rafael Nadal Wins Historic 10th French Open Title

Nadal clinched the summit clash with an emphatic 6-2,6-3,6-1 win over the third seed Wawrinka.

Wawrinka had won all three of his previous grand slam finals but wasted his only chance to seize the early initiative, and Nadal took control with a run of seven unanswered games.

The King of Clay has officially captured his 10th French Open crown. "And second, all the effort I have been doing last few weeks to get to my best level again, to get some confidence again, and to win all those matches, some tough matches".

"I know Wawrinka is a very risky opponent, so my mentality was there all the time thinking that I can not give him the chance to be back in the match", the No. 4 seed explained.

"I think since the beginning of the year, you can see he's playing more aggressive, staying more close from the line". It has been very special to me, and it's true that it is unprecedented.

PARIS -In Roland Garros exile for three years, Rafael Nadal reclaimed his French Open throne with a history-making 10th title, destroying Stan Wawrinka 6-2 6-3 6-1.

2005-Won the French Open on his debut in 2005 and a year later beat Roger Federer in the final for his second title.

"It's hard for me to compare this to any other event. Five-set match, you know, it's going to be a really tough challenge when you play against him", said the Swiss. "The nerves and adrenaline I feel on this court is impossible to compare". Thank you to the organisers, the other players, to all the people that make this tournament possible.

He broke Wawrinka on his very first serve and again broke him twice to win the final set 6-1 as he completed his long awaited La Decima!

Nadal entered Sunday's match as the fourth seed and the favorite. Nadal continued to hold serve easily and then, getting his groundstrokes right and playing with plenty of depth, broke on Wawrinka's very next service game to take the lead 4-2.

Such was his dominance in Paris that he had not dropped a set and conceded only 34 games, which is second-best record after Bjorn Borg's 32 at 1978 French Open.

That may sound like a lot, but considering the new world No. 2 didn't play a single grass-court event a year ago and the Brit won both Queen's and Wimbledon, it's actually very tight. He is 9-0 in past finals at the clay-court major and has not lost a set in this year's tournament, playing as well at age 31 as he ever has.
