Check out teaser for Neill Blomkamp's experimental short films, Oats Studios

Watch The First Trailer For District 9 Director's New Short Film Coming To Steam

Neill Blomkamp is returning to his roots with Oats Studios.

It's no Alien sequel, which fans had hoped Blomkamp might create, but it's original sci-fi, which is honestly much better.

Back in April, director Neill Blomkamp took to Twitter to announce that he and his banner, Oats Studios, would be releasing experimental short films via Steam.

The video showcases the tense action scenes and sci-fi creatures that have come to define his career, opening with a shot of the Eiffel Tower in a world where aliens have colonised the earth and are wiping out mankind. "Adapt or die, it was as simple as that", adds the voiceover. "We were humanity. They came here to exterminate us".

The aim for Oats Studios is to release free short films over YouTube while also offering a paid version of the same film over Steam, which would include more assets like concept art, 3D models, VFX content, etc. While details about plot and cast are still kept under wraps, viewers notice two actresses in the teaser which very look like Dakota Fanning and Sigourney Weaver.

Blomkamp famously got his start by directing short films, including Tetra Vaal, Alive in Joburg, Yellow and Tempbot.

The first trailer, which is simply titled Oats: Volume 1, appears to be a science fiction tale, with shots of aliens and discussions that aliens have landed on Earth with the sole goal of wiping us out.

Blomkamp first revealed the project a year ago after asking fans if they would be interested in purchasing short films off the (majorly) gaming platform Steam.
