Cops: Racial slur sprayed on LeBron James' Los Angeles home

LeBron James and the Cavs will take on Steph Curry and the Warriors beginning Thursday night

The 32-year-old basketball star addressed the incident during a press conference on Wednesday (May 31).

As he has grown older, and as he has established himself as one of the great athletes in US history, LeBron James has become increasingly willing to address social and political issues.

Almost a year since he sat at the same podium inside Oracle Arena and addressed Muhammad Ali's impact as an activist following the heavyweight champion's death, James discussed the daily challenges of being black in the U.S.

But he said it was "killing me inside" that he would not be able to discuss the vandalism with his two young sons, who were with the rest of the family at their OH home.

James also mentioned Emmett Till, a 14-year-old African-American who was murdered in MS in 1955, in his comments. James wrote a column to articulate his endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president.

"I'm going to give them the blueprint of life, but at the end of the day they're going to have to walk their own course as well", he said to ESPN's Rachel Nichols.

"And I think back to Emmett Till's mom, actually", James said of the African-American teenager who was lynched in MS in the 1950s. "LeBron James is not the first rich or famous person to be called a nigger and will be not the last", Johnson said. "Hate, in America, especially for an African-American, is living every day", an emotional James said.

The Los Angeles home of LeBron James has become the site of an apparent hate crime just one day before the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar embarks on his seventh straight NBA Finals. They hated on Muhammad Ali. He is cognizant of his voice and is mindful of when to use it.

Last year James expressed his support for Colin Kaepernick's protest, the NFL quarterback who refused to stand during performances of the USA national anthem prior to each game.

"It will pass", James said. He then transitioned the conversation to a personal thought James had been having - an example other black parents could relate to.

It was hard for James to think that he won't be home with his family until next week and he said he would settle instead for a FaceTime call, saying, "It's kind of killing me right now". "But I look at it as this".

The incident comes a day after James spoke about how he'd like to own a team in the National Basketball Association when his playing days are over.

"We know people will hide they faces and will say things about you and then when they see you, they'll smile to your face".
