A Gold PlayStation 4 Appears To Be On The Way

In Japan, Sony has discontinued the PlayStation 3, the manufacturer announced on the official website. The move obviously pulls the plug on one of Sony's successful game consoles as it has reached the end of its generation.

With that pronouncement, it seems the PS3 is definitely going to be axed in the United States as reports of the console hurting Sony have been circulating since April of this year.

Over half a billion game devices sold in less than a decade isn't bad. The console received all latest sports games from Electronic arts including Federation Internationale de Football Association 16, NFL, GTA V among many other newer titles.

The PlayStation 3 has had a very interesting history following its release in Japan on November 11th, 2006 and North American launch on November 17th. Wikipedia lists 1,433 PS3 games released or to be released on Blu-ray disc for PlayStation 3. The Ps3's steep price tag was also certainly not helped by the fact that Ken "Father of the PlayStation" Kutaragi made the comment that people will want to work more to be able to afford the system.

Not a bad slate of free games.

Some of May 2017 games lineup titles are still available for all the fans on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita. Some of the titles are even available on multiple platforms, while many are PlayStation Vita exclusive games. And that's not going to be for several more years, at least. At the end of April, Sony reported that the PlayStation 4 was close to reaching that total at 78 million.

What is Sony changing after the PS3?

Meanwhile, there are lots of ranging speculations over Sony's next moves.

It remains to be seen if Sony outs a fix for the issue or offers users an effective workaround to the problem. It's sold 85 million units in its 10 years of life, although it couldn't match the success of its predecessor, the PS2. That's excluding Sony's PlayStation Portable (launched in 2004) and the Nintendo DS (also launched in 2004), most of whose aggregate 236 million unit sales transpired during this period.
