Tom Cruise Confirms 'Top Gun' Sequel: 'It Is Definitely Happening!'

Tom Cruise says the runway is clear for Top Gun 2.

"We talked a little bit about Top Gun", the movie mogul said.

"It's true. Yeah, it's true". "I'm going to start probably in the next year".

"It is definitely happening", he said on Seven's Sunrise program.

Cruise - who is promoting his upcoming re-boot of "The Mummy" - has been dodging Top Gun 2 rumors for decades. Stranger things have happened, obviously, but I'd probably bank on this being legit, whether we want it to happen or not.

Producers over the years have given fans hope of a sequel to the 1986 film, but it has never actually come to fruition.

Tom Cruise can't deny his need for speed!

Cruise is now on the promotion trail for his new movie The Mummy.

"You're the first people I've said it to", he told the stunned TV anchors. Early previous year, fans got a Top Gun tease when Bruckheimer shared a photo of himself with Cruise, apparently after a discussion about the sequel.

Some time back Cruise clarified on ' The Graham Norton Show' that they were trying to figure it out, how to move forward with the movie. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Take My Breath Away" performed by Berlin.
