Philippine President's visit to Russian Federation to enhance ties

Philippine officials said last week that President Rodrigo Duterte approved the Department of Finance's recommendation not to accept 250 million euros (nearly $280 million) in European Union grants for 2017 to 2020 to discourage the bloc from interfering in Philippine internal affairs and requiring a review of the country's adherence to the rule of law.

Duterte and Russian President Vladimir Putin will also witness the signing of agreements on defense, military and technical cooperation, mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, extradition and cooperation between national security councils, Natividad said. "But if there will be loss of lives needlessly, and without reason, just to kill, kill, and kill, I will declare martial law in Mindanao".

"There was no language or even tone that would lead any of the two presidents to believe that there was disrespect for them or their country", he said.

"Russia is a country that we must work with". Reiterating his "firm resolve to broaden the horizons for friendship", Duterte highlighted Russia's "geographic footprint" as well as its "strategic interest in the (Asia Pacific) region" as reasons for extending cooperation between the two countries.

"If it would take a year to do it, if it's over within a month, then I'd be happy", Duterte said in a video posted online by the government.

"Well, if you force this, we'll be forced to tell you the truth".

"The whole of Marawi city is blacked out, there is no light, and there are Maute snipers all around", Lorenzana said in the news conference in Moscow, which was broadcast live in the Philippines.

"I want to deal with China and Russian Federation".

Before the four-day trip, Mr Duterte said: "Overdependence on traditional partners has limited our room to manoeuvre in a very dynamic worldwide arena".

"I had a talk with President Xi Jinping yesterday because he [Trump] called four days ago to ask me if President Xi Jinping could do something about the situation regarding Kim Jong-un", he told reporters at the time. "I have to do it to preserve the Republic of the Philippines, the Filipino people", he said. I want my country to be treated with dignity", he added, "Russia sells weapons, no conditions.

Police have reported killing about 2,700 people since Duterte took office at the end of June and immediately launched his war on drugs.

Translation of RT compliment Duterte Russians or, as the context, the Russian leadership looks like: "I know that Russia has the weapons".

In the same interview with the Russian media, Duterte revealed that he had turned down an invitation to attend US President Donald Trump's inauguration in January in favor of first visiting Russia.

Duterte has launched series of profanity-laced remarks against the United States and his other critics like the European Union (EU).
