Protester killed, AP journalist wounded in West Bank clash

We urge the rest of the worldwide community also to speak up to support the demands of Palestinian prisoners and to insist that Israel immediately enters into serious dialogue with the prisoners about their demands before it is too late.

The wave of violence threatened to spiral as the weekend approached as Palestinians were called to continue confronting Israeli security forces at various points in the West Bank.

Pax Christi International, together with its member organisations and partners, is deeply concerned about the situation of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons - especially those who have been on a hunger strike for one month and whose situation is deteriorating.

In the West Bank, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in an emailed press statement that 38 were injured in total, including casualties were injured by rubber bullets and tear gas.

The settler opened fire after his vehicle was surrounded and stoned by Palestinian protesters when he attempted to drive through their demonstration near a military checkpoint in the northern West Bank yesterday.

"Israel's establishing of West Bank settlement, including in East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation of global law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-state solution", the resolution reads.

Israeli forces attacked the weekly peaceful march held in Nilin village, west of Ramallah, to protest Israeli settlement activities, land expropriation, and the separation wall, said a local activist.

Dozens of protesters suffocated due to tear gas inhalation.

"Israeli authorities should not allow a man who by his own admission shot at a crowd, injuring a journalist and killing a young man, to rest comfortably at home, unmolested by police", CPJ Middle East and North Africa Program Coordinator Sherif Mansour said.

Israel's military said troops opened fire after Palestinians hurled fire bombs and rocks at them.

They were transferred to hospital for medical treatment, where their conditions were described as moderate.
