Nicky Hayden remains in 'extremely critical' condition after cycling accident

(Motorcycling) Ex-world champion Hayden 'extremely critical'

The former MotoGP champion was hit by a auto, while he was driving his bicycle.

Honda quoted Cesena's Maurizio Bufalini hospital as saying the 35-year-old had "a serious polytrauma with subsequent serious cerebral damage".

WorldSBK star Nicky Hayden's condition remains unchanged and still extremely critical, according to doctors this evening.

From the past season, he returned to the Superbike Championship with the Red Bull World Superbike Honda, replacing Sylvain Guintoli alongside Michel van der Mark. It is still unknown, what consequences will Hayden have, if he survives.

Hayden, 35, was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near the beach town of Riccione on Wednesday, three days after racing in Italy's Imola track for the Superbike World Championship.

Hayden last raced in the MotoGP championship in Spain in September 2016 as a stand-in for injured Australian Jack Miller at the privately-run Marc VDS Honda team. The Superbike World Championship says the incident occurred Wedn.

In his MotoGP carrer, Kentucky Kid has 3 victories, 28 podiums and 5 pole positions in 218 starts. Paramedics stabilized him on site, and then he was taken to the nearest hospital with the highest gravity code.

Former world motorcycling champion Nicky Hayden was in "extremely critical" condition on Thursday following a serious bicycle accident which left him with brain damage, as his fiancée and mother kept a vigil at his bedside. We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and messages of support and the assistance of emergency and medical services. "Once an official statement regarding Nicky's condition is released by the hospital or Nicky's family, a further update from the team will be issued".

Our thoughts are with Nicky and his family during this hard time, and we wish him a full and fast recovery.
