UK Labour leader accuses Theresa May of 'pandering' to Trump

"Proud and patriotic working class people in towns and cities across Britain have not deserted the Labour Party - Jeremy Corbyn has deserted them", she said.

Still, polls show that 46 per cent of voters intend to back the Tories on June 8, a drop of one point from the previous YouGov poll.

Theresa May's Conservative Party continues to hold a formidable lead over their rivals in the latest general election polls.

The measures, being set out by Mr Corbyn and shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth, will see Labour commit to meeting the existing 18-week waiting list target and the four-hour A&E goal.

Britain's main opposition leader has accused Prime Minister Theresa May of pandering to an "erratic" USA administration, as defense and security take center-stage in the United Kingdom election campaign.

Corbyn also said there would no more "hand holding" with US President Donald Trump - a reference to an embarrassing moment for Prime Minister Theresa May when the American leader took her by the hand during a visit to the White House. "And pandering to an erratic administration will not deliver stability".

He denounced the USA administration for "recklessly" endangering global security through interventions in North Korea and Syria while opposing his predecessor Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran.

In a speech to the Chatham House think tank Corbyn, a well known opponent of past military interventions in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, said he would make the safety of Britain a priority if elected at the June 8 General Election.

"Regime change wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria - and Western interventions in Afghanistan, Somalia and Yemen - haven't always succeeded in their own terms".

Corbyn said he would take a different direction, calling the USA -led "war on terror" a failure.

With some moderate Labour MPs reported to be in revolt over Mr Corbyn's radical programme of renationalisation and expanding public services and following the leak of the party's manifesto, Mrs May will accuse him of a return to the "disastrous socialist policies of the 1970s".

He warned it was clear that "a vote for Theresa May could be a vote to escalate the war in Syria, risking military confrontation with Russian Federation, adding to the suffering of the Syrian people and increasing global insecurity".

Corbyn said that a Labour government would seek greater worldwide cooperation to end the conflict in Syria and "work to halt the drift to confrontation with Russia. winding down tensions on the Russia-NATO border". The party's main slogan is "strong and stable" - in contrast to what May calls "a Corbyn-led coalition of chaos".

Criticism of Mr Corbyn on defence issues has focused on his opposition to nuclear weapons and admission he would not be prepared to use them if he was prime minister.

The Conservatives sought to rubbish the Labour leader's speech with Boris Johnson saying Mr Corbyn was "a guy who has campaigned all his life to weaken the UK's defences".
